touch someone's life
Start today
If you find it rewarding to help others in need, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to make a difference at KZN Care Association. Our residents are among the most vulnerable members of society. Frail elderly souls who are reliant solely on small pensions … people with disabilities … and children severely affected by cerebral palsy. Most of these children have been abandoned and placed here by the state. They have no one else to love them and nowhere else to go.
Please choose how you will reach out to provide some comfort, and let these old and vulnerable people know that they do matter.

DONATE CASH
Gifts of cash, especially regular monthly contributions, are the easiest way to make a significant improvement in the lives of those most in need.
Old age pensioners and disabled children who have been abandoned here have no one else to provide essentials like food, clothing and toiletries – as well as the odd treat. Your kindness will be appreciated more than you can imagine.

DONATE GIFTS IN KIND
We are always in need of items like non-perishable foodstuffs, toiletries (including adult disposable nappies), cleaning products, bedlinen and household appliances, as well as hardware and tools for maintenance and gardening. Gifts in kind may be dropped off at our Home, or call us for collection of large loads.
Second hand items in good condition that can be sold in our Thrift Shop are also most gratefully accepted. Why not have a clear out at home or at the office and donate your unwanted items today.
Proceeds from the Thrift Shop provide us with an income towards the cost of caring for our residents; the shop also enables residents to buy affordable clothing, books, linen, kitchen utensils, crockery and ornaments. It’s a win-win situation – and it starts with you!
VOLUNTEER
Donate your time and skills. We are always in need of maintenance services for our Home – handyman, electrical, plumbing, painting and gardening services.
Perhaps you could help out in the office, sorting or pricing items for our Thrift Shop, or with fundraising activities?
Or you may find your greatest reward spending time with our residents, encouraging them to join in activities such as singing, dancing, baking, arts and crafts or exercise classes.
SPONSOR A MEAL
Every day we dish up 250 meals to frail, semi-frail and disabled residents who are unable to cook for themselves.
We are grateful to caring donors who undertake to provide all the meals needed for one day – either by cooking, preparing and delivering 250 portions of food … or by sponsoring the ingredients (at R10 per person).
Book ‘your’ day on our calendar – possibly on your birthday or other significant date – and celebrate by giving elders in need the gift of a hearty meal.
FUNDRAISE FOR US
Raise funds for KZN Care Association by participating in a marathon or cycle race and asking friends, family and business associates to sponsor you. Or suggest they donate towards the care of our elderly and disabled residents instead of buying you gifts for your birthday or anniversary.
It’s quick and easy to set up a fundraising page on GivenGain or Backabuddy. Your friends can sponsor you online – and the money you raise goes directly to us (less a small fee) so you don’t have to worry about handling cash.
Have you considered a gift in your will to a charitable organisation?
You may not be in a financial position to make a donation right now but please consider leaving a gift in your Will to help us care for less fortunate elderly people who consider KZN Care Association as home.
Many of the elderly folk in our care find themselves in dire financial straits, often through no fault of their own.
It is a fact that people are living longer and outliving their financial plans. Government grants only partially cover the true cost of living at the KZN Care Association. Our elders become like family to us so we must find ways to meet these costs so that they can remain within their safe space and with the friends that they have made.
Some of the common fears amongst the elderly include loneliness and isolation, the inability to manage their own activities of daily living, loss of independence, declining health, running out of money and strangers caring for them. We recognize these fears and respond by providing more for our residents than a roof over their heads, running water and a meal.
For those with disabilities and those in advancing years, the KZN Care Association provides a sense of security, of community and most importantly – a caring environment to call Home.
A gift in your will to less fortunate people living at the KZN Care Association will be a lasting legacy.
Please contact our Executive Director on 031 2051351 or at belinda@kzncare.org.za to discuss leaving a bequest.
